At Cogswell we are working with our parents to create an environment where they become partners in our school success. Below are some of the areas of work that we are doing with our parents:
- Parent training on reading strategies being used in the classroom- in particular those selected as school-wide strategies
- Reading Comprehension
- Constructive Response Questions
- Family Literacy Night - a night where families will engage in various stations that will have activities that can be used at home.
- Parent training on Math Problem strategies being used in the classroom- in particular those presented to teachers from UCLA Math Project.
- Parent training for parents on understanding the brain and how it regulates emotions, behaviors and learning and how this is key to connecting with the children in our lives. Parents will learn about the brain and walk away with some tools for regulation and stress reduction for our students and parents.
- Parent training on Math Problem strategies being used in the classroom- in particular those presented to teachers from UCLA Math Project.
- Walking Club- A group of parents walk around our campus as a form of exercise. This is done Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
- Computer Class. Parents come learn basic skills such as web access, email access and learning to type.
